Lexington Dining Club Books
http://www.lafayettechoir.org/diningclubbooks.html

The Lafayette Choirs are getting ready to launch their second major fundraiser of the year! Lexington Dining Club Books will be passed out to students on November 2 and 3. If you have not opted out of fundraisers, we expect everyone's participation in fundraisers. If you did not sell cookie dough - we expect you to sell double on this sale!

We have several big activities planned for the Spring which come with a big price tag for transportation (particularly with high fuel prices). We don't want to scale back our plans because of lack of funding! There are some new incentives to reward for participation in sales! So let's all do our part to help the choir!

Cash prize for the Top Seller! Cash incentives! Student Credits! And Candy Draws for every 2 books sold! (For exact details, see: http://www.lafayettechoir.org/diningclubbooks.html

Portfolio Writing: (Due November 21 and 22) Every class at Lafayette is required to assign a portfolio writing piece. It is that time again! On Monday and Tuesday (Oct 31 and Nov 1) we will pass out the portfolio writing packets! If you have lost misplaced yours, please download a new packet from the website. This is an important assignment (since the choirs are performance classes, we have few writing assignments) therefore it is important to take this assignment seriously. Of course this is not a writing class, but it is important to give a good effort. Whatever you do - make sure you turn something in (otherwise it can dramatically alter your grade) Parents, please ask your students about this paper.

Makeup Assignments:
The Lafayette Choir Absence policy requires that all (excused) absences from a performance and any daily rehearsal excused absences over three per semester require a make-up assignment be submitted. Please see the Makeup assignment handout.

All First Semester makeup work is due by Monday December 5.

Lafayette is beginning a new extra-curricular Gospel choir! This new choir, sponsored by Mr. Dillard (Lafayette's new Orchestra director) and Mr. Marsh. This group will meet weekly on Tuesdays beginning on November 15th. This group is open to ALL Lafayette students. There are no auditions! If you like to sing and enjoy gospel music, come join us!
First rehearsal: November 15, 2005: 3:30-5:00 in the Choir Room.

Governor's School for the Arts and Governor's Scholar Program
From every corner of the Commonwealth, Kentucky's most talented, creative high school students gather for three weeks each summer to learn and grow together at the Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) on the Transylvania University Campus. Juniors and seniors in high school are offered in-depth instruction in one of seven artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theater, visual art or vocal music. Over 1,200 students audition for the program each year at four sites across Kentucky. Each spring, approximately 230 students are selected for GSA, an honor which includes: full tuition, room and board to attend the school; the opportunity to learn in a supportive community of distinguished master-teachers; the excitement of performing at the Student Performance Festival at the conclusion of the program; and serious fun! Being accepted to GSA carries with it many scholarship opportunities at state schools. Many Lafayette Choir students have be! en accepted over the past few years!

GSP
http://www.kygsp.org/ The Governor's Scholars Program is a stimulating, five-week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school. Established in 1983, the popular program provides academic and personal growth in a challenging, non-traditional experience that balances a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge.

The 2006 GSP student applications (without the Counselor Statements and two Teacher Nomination Forms) are due to Mrs. Carr in the LHS Guidance Office by Friday, December 2.
